The Special Needs Program, Inc. is a non-profit organization that was founded by parents of disabled children. The organization is registered with the Internal Revenue Service as a “Human Service Agency” and has a tax-exempt status. In addition, its operations have been funded and/or regulated by the New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, New York State Education Department, Department of Transportation and Department of Motor Vehicles.
The Special Needs Program, when originally incorporated, anticipated its potential as a sponsor/provider for service to the autistic and severely developmentally disabled person whose needs and demands are dynamic.
Our Articles of Incorporation provide for establishment and operation of programs servicing persons with developmental disabilities and mental retardation. The Special Needs Program pledges to operate all facilities and programs in total compliance with operating standards and regulations which meet or exceed those promulgated by appropriate Federal, State and accreditation bodies. Special Needs will not admit any individuals to its residence until an operating certificate has been granted. The Board of Special Needs is confident of its ability, commitment and competency to establish and operate an I.C.F./D.D. and an I.R.A. of the highest quality and reputation.
Our Administration office is currently located in Ghent, New York. This location has proven most beneficial for us, as well as to the development of links with other private and public organizations. In its years of operation, Special Needs has been rated by parents and caretakers as a model service provider agency.
Special Needs’ primary goal is to provide services to developmentally disabled persons with special needs such as Autism, physical and behavioral challenges which exclude them from participating in existing community programs.
